Porsche 911 Interior Restoration in Everett: Hand-Built Craftsmanship, Backed by Modern Technology

Restoring a Porsche 911 interior is where a lot of otherwise-excellent restoration projects fall apart. The engine can be built to concours specification. The paint can be flawless. The suspension can be sorted for the way you actually drive. And then you sit down inside the car, and the seat bolsters are wrong, the stitch pattern is off by a generation, the carpet backing catches moisture six months after install, and every detail you’ve spent years chasing gets undermined by an interior that just doesn’t fit.

We built Northwest Crafted Interiors around that specific problem. A father-and-son team, working out of a shop in Everett, doing hand-built interior work for classic Porsche 911s and other collector cars with old-world craftsmanship and modern technology working together on every build.

The Approach: Hand Craft Meets Precision Technology

The traditional way to restore a 911 interior involves patterns cut by hand, foam shaped by eye, stitching guided by decades of muscle memory. That’s the foundation of the work. It’s why the seats feel right when you sit in them, why the door cards fit tight, why the headliner tensions correctly across the roof.

The modern layer we add on top of that:

  • 3D scanning. Every panel, every seat frame, every dash is scanned before disassembly. That scan becomes a digital reference we can measure, iterate, and preserve. If a seat frame gets straightened or a panel needs to be replicated, we have the original geometry to work from.
  • 3D printing. For missing hardware, custom mounting brackets, and trim clips that are no longer available, we print in materials rated for automotive use. Structural parts are printed in engineering-grade filaments. Cosmetic pieces are finished to match original textures.
  • Laser etching. For date codes, logos, part numbers, and any surface detail that needs precision, we laser-etch to original specification. This matters especially for concours-correct builds where wrong stamps or missing marks would knock points at judging.
  • Digital pattern preservation. Every pattern we cut is preserved digitally. If the car comes back in ten years for a repair, or if the owner sells the car and the next owner needs replacement work, we can reproduce the exact interior we built the first time.

None of this replaces the craft. All of it makes the craft more precise, more repeatable, and more durable.

What a Porsche 911 Interior Restoration Actually Involves

Every 911 interior project starts with a conversation. We need to know:

  • What generation is the car? SWB, LWB, G-series, 964, 993 each has meaningful differences in stitch patterns, materials, hardware, and construction methods. A 1973 911T is not a 1988 Carrera.
  • What’s the finished goal? Concours-correct restoration where every detail matches factory specification? Driver-quality build where the car will be driven and enjoyed? A restomod where the interior is upgraded with modern materials, comfort features, and technology while keeping the classic look?
  • What condition is the current interior? We inspect seat frames for corrosion, foam for collapse, dashboards for cracks, headliners for sag, carpet for underlying rust or moisture, and trim panels for warp and delamination.
  • What’s the timeline? A typical 911 interior full seat rebuild, door cards, headliner, dashboard, carpet, and trim runs three to six months from teardown to install, depending on complexity and material sourcing.

From there, we build a scope, a budget, and a schedule that coordinates with your body, paint, and mechanical team so we’re not installing carpet on top of unresolved rust or fitting door cards before window regulators are tested.

The Materials We Work With

For a 911 interior, material choice is where the restoration philosophy shows up. We work with:

  • Correct-grain vinyl and leather matched to Porsche’s original interior color codes and grain textures for concours builds
  • German square-weave carpet in the correct pile height for the year, with authentic backing
  • Original foam density specifications for seats, replicated from factory samples or measured from unaltered original seats
  • Period-correct thread colors and stitch patterns including the specific stitch length and pattern changes between generations
  • Upgraded modern materials for driver builds premium Italian leather, Alcantara inserts, higher-density foam for better long-term support
  • Custom-woven or custom-printed fabrics when a client wants something unique everything from historically-accurate tartans to modern bespoke patterns
  • Inlays and accent work wood, metal, laser-etched details on seat backs, door cards, or dash panels

Every material choice gets discussed with the owner before we cut anything.

Why the Father-Son Team Model Matters

We’re not a factory. We’re a two-person shop where every stitch has one of our hands on it, and where the person who takes your call is the person doing the work.

That matters for two reasons. First, quality control is inseparable from the person doing the work there’s no crew of contractors moving from car to car who might or might not care about your specific build. Second, communication is direct. You talk to us. You don’t get routed through a service advisor to a shop manager to a technician you never meet.

The trade-off is capacity. We take on a limited number of builds at a time because we won’t shortcut the work. If you’re looking for a shop that can turn around a 911 interior in three weeks, that’s not us. If you’re looking for a shop that will build your interior to a standard you’ll be proud of ten years from now, we’re the shop.

Coordinating With Your Restoration Team

We’re an interior specialist. We’re not a full-service restoration shop, and we work best as part of a broader team. If you have a shop handling your engine, paint, and body work already, we coordinate directly with them on:

  • Sequencing. Interior goes in after body, paint, wiring, and mechanical are resolved. We help make sure that order is right.
  • Wiring routing. If gauges, stereo, seat heaters, or lighting are being modified, we work with your electrical shop to plan wire routing before trim panels are fitted.
  • HVAC and climate control. Vents, ducts, and control heads need to be resolved before the dashboard goes back in.
  • Structural. Any floor pan repair, rocker work, or seat rail attachment work needs to be complete and sealed before we install carpet.

If you don’t have a shop for the body and mechanical side, we can recommend trusted partners in the Everett, Seattle, and Bellevue area.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a Porsche 911 interior restoration take?

Full interior builds typically run three to six months from teardown to install, depending on complexity and material availability. Smaller jobs (single seats, headliner only, dashboard only) run four to eight weeks.

Do you only work on Porsches?

Porsche 911s are our specialty and where most of our work happens, but we also work on other classic cars vintage BMWs, Mercedes, muscle cars, restomod builds. If it’s a collector car with a soul, we’re interested.

Can you match factory-correct materials for a concours build?

Yes. We source materials to Porsche’s original specifications for the year and generation, including correct grain textures, thread colors, foam densities, and stitch patterns.

Do you do restomod interiors with modern materials?

Absolutely. Many of our best builds combine classic pattern language with upgraded materials Italian leather, Alcantara inserts, integrated heating, hidden audio, modern comfort features that don’t compromise the car’s character.

How do I start a project with you?

An in-shop consultation. You bring the car (or send detailed photos and specs if you’re out of the immediate area), we walk through your vision, and we build a scope, budget, and timeline. Consultations are free.
